Canadian police arrest Jassi's mother and uncle

Shocking new revelations in Jassi book spur arrests in 11 year old case

In a dramatic turn in the Jassi Sidhu murder case, the Supreme Court of British Columbia has issued arrest warrants against Jassi's mother Malkit Kaur Sidhu, 63, and maternal uncle Surjit Singh Badesha, 67, of Maple Ridge.
The pair was arrested on January 6th and are currently being held in custody pending an extradition hearing.
The warrants were issued under Canada's Extradition Act.

The recent release of the book, Justice for Jassi is being attributed for spurring action in the cold 11-year old case.
See: www.amazon.com/Justice-for-Jassi-ebook/dp/B0066BJ91I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325986935&sr=8-1

There has been little movement on the case file in the past decade but in the brief two months since the book's release, approximately 6,000 people have signed the petition on www.justiceforjassi.com demanding the RCMP lay charges in the case.

The book's co-authors Fabian Dawson, Deputy Editor of The Province newspaper, and Harbinder Singh Sewak originally broke the story of her murder in the summer of 2000 and have since followed the case closely, including travelling to India to research the book.

Sewak, the publisher of The South Asian Post, paid for lawyers to free Jassi's husband Mithu from prison after he was jailed for false rape charges (see: www.southasianpost.com/article/you-helped-us-save-innocent-man).

Recently, Sewak also assisted the CBC's Fifth Estate, consulting its journalism team on their recent TV documentary on the case, Escape from Justice.

After the murder in 2000, Indian authorities laid conspiracy to commit murder charges against Jassi's mother and uncle after the Indian Police Service (IPS) and the Punjab Police Service (PPS) conducted an investigation into the murder.

The investigation uncovered evidence indicating Jassi Sidhu’s family were involved in the homicide from Canada.

Seven other individuals, allegedly hired by the uncle and mother here in Maple Ridge, have already been convicted in India for charges including murder, attempt murder and conspiracy to commit murder in relation to the death of Jassi Sidhu and attempted murder of her husband, Mithu Sidhu.

I was so glad to hear of the arrests- I was becoming embarrassed to be a Canadian! I hope this brings some peace to those who loved Jassi and especially to Mithu.

It's about time

How horrible! and can I say "only in Canada?" ... shame shame shame for the deeds done, for the deeds undone and for the time this has taken to get this far, thus far. Now we can watch the accused pull out all the stops and tricks to avoid extridition which may take another decade or so. But it's a beginning albeit late and slow.

Extradition

this is a bitter sweet moment in the case for Justice for Jassi. Finally the 2 main people responsible for the murder/attempt murder have been arrested - but only to be extradited to India to face charges. They conspired to commit murder x2 here on Canadian soil - not in India. India has the most corrupt legal system known to man, a few dollars here and there and the whole case takes a new and unexpected turn. Innocent people can be charged without a speck of evidence and guilty people with evidence a mile long can walk free. Why is the RCMP not charging them here under the Canadian Law? A very serious crime has taken place in this Country, they should be charged under our criminal system. What is the RCMP afraid of - they themselves coming under investigation for why it has taken over 11 years to make these arrests, why they had not acted sooner in arresting these people, how they allow Darshan Singh to not only enter Canada while still facing murder charges himself in India, but also to leave, how the CBC had more information and evidence against the uncle and the mother than the RCMP had...... it is embarassing to know we are policed by such inferior agency !!

honor killing

You can call it with what ever fancy name you want to justify your actions. An honor killing as she brought shame on the family name by marrying a man whose financial status did not meet the same levels as the families. Seriously - is that a reason to kill another human being? She married a person within the same culture, race and background as herself. He did not demand anything from her or her family as dowry. They had the simplest form of marriage any couple could want, because all that mattered to them was each other.
You can NOT justify murder by saying it was an Honor Killing- that does not make it right - murder is murder !! The sooner our justice system enforce that and charge and sentence accordingly, the sooner these unneccessary murders will also cease.

Too hard on the RCMP?

Should we really be so hard on the RCMP? They've had their hands full, after all, with the sexual harassment of their own female officers. At some point, isn't possible taxpayers are asking too much when we expect Canada's national police force to bust some crime?

Justice for Jassi

Economic base system design to kill social sense set to fail human being as Communism spreading social & environment junk around the world through powerful media & wars.

Honor Killing is used as tool to degrade other's social values or religions & dismantle social organization.

2% Arrange 40% Love Marriage fail, kids fight each other over girl-friends die even in west other social & health problems no need at any cost.

Economic base system killed millions of people around the world for thousands of yrs for Economic reasons. Has nothing to do with values of Human life. Human is video game at World Trade Centre, Muslim or any where in this world.

Arrange Marriage is most peaceful, respectful, sucessful, exicitiing process to get merry. Social traditions take debate of generations to become Honor, has deep meaning than ego. Take your own kids life is most painful than reading, writing, making movies for entertainment or business.

We treat women as Goddess creator of this world, Honor of our families, social system or this world. Economic base system treat them as marketing tool. West never give respect to women.

12-13 yrs old single mothers under stress abusing drugs, alcohol is free-dom for women. Right to drive isn't issue in Arab world, women cirlce around metal pole in a bar full of drunks is their ultimate goal.

5000 people die through honor killing in whole world per yr. people die every moment through accidents, natural or human disasters, health, starving or wars.

Girl was burnt inside her home by throwing acid, wasn't major news for local news papers, if it was Honor Killing or Arrange Marriage go wrong could be national or international media dancing around.

Social values are to protect our kids & peace in our social system. Stop Drink & Drive is for everyone's safety drunk driver can kill or be killed if choose to be.

Marriage isn't Love, its Devotion created through family celebrations, best wishes, social traditions supported by religion. One can love their house, car, neighbour, country or world, can't merry.

Market base entertainment industry exploit young kids emotions seting on mountains of wealth through misery of our social system.

Women has to go through life & death situation to bring in someone create this world, men has to protect. Child stay with mother before & after birth by nature world get social sense from mom.

Every women has her own world, some come in this world to make it haven, some can create hell.

Economic base system turning men & women head on in every relation, created social & environment hell for this world through Atom or Nuclear weapons.

White people has illusion what ever they believe is world order Crusaders, Communism or Economic base system will fall on their face too. World will bump into a brick wall & turn around towards social & environment sense.

Punjab Mansa MSc student was killed front of her mom, New Delhi girl was shot by Road Lover. Maple Batiala there are millions cases tragedy created by Love, Love Marriage, Live-in-Relationships & other social junk of west.

Heer-Ranjha, Mirza-Sahban, Romeo-Juliet can't be founder of our social system just can entertain our corrupt mind. Human mind is corrupt orinally doesn't like social, religious or corporate laws.

Was waching documantery "500 Nations" invaders loot Mexico natives slaughter whole tribes. Was wondering what kind system create these kind Human. Kids don't know their parents develop anti social behavior, family minded person can't be used to kill people around the world for economic reasons.

Economic base system, Comunism, Christian & Muslim religion design to expand created broken social system. Christian religion was creation of Economic base system has most social problems.

People believe in Christian religion not just they lost faith social sense too. Drugs may be produced in Afghanistan consumed by west or so called developed world's broken social system full of stress.

How many people die in Mexico & around the world to feed drugs to west. Economic base system design to kill social sense set fail human being as Communism or Crusadres.

Our waters are poisoning, daughters creator of this world are into drugs & alcoholism that s what we set to cater our future generations, Dead End.

Hope Media & entertainment can help parents to make sense of social values to Save Our Kids.

Need strong families, social system to have peaceful world.

I am ashamed of the RCMP.
Over 11 years and no charges laid in Canada!
Politics and money are to blame. RCMP and Federal gov. politics. The DOJ and the Public Safety Minister also have a responsibility in these matters.
The RCMP does not want responsibility for a case with potential to bring them bad publicity, especially since the Indian Gov. was taking care of these matters at their end. There is history between the RCMP and India as we all remember.
The primary goal of the RCMP is to protect their public image, this is why the perpetrators were only arrested as a reaction to CBC airing the program last week.
They must assume we are all morons!!!!
Yet again they failed to lay criminal charges under sec.465 of the criminal code.
They are not doing their jobs as we were all sworn to do.
I worked on extraditions before, and I assure you that it is nearly impossible to extradite a Canadian citizen, especially to a country like India.
Remember Ng's extradition request from the US for several murders. The Dept. of Justice dragged this case for several years, and imposed conditions before they returned him to the US.
The RCMP have been once again lasy and incompetent, more focused on saving face than doing their jobs and they have the nerve to get hot under the collar when questionned about the case.
They had more than 11 years to decide on a course of action and just look at the action they took as a reaction to CBC's program. This was only done for PR.
They never intended to prosecute in Canada.
When are we going to demand transparency and accountability from the RCMP and the government?

RE: RCMP and the Legal System

The Tory Government has vowed to get tough on crime but failed horribly in many cases such as this one.
If the current political parties can impose sanctions on what they deem radical or rogue counties this one should be at the top of the list. If economic sanctions are enforced perhaps political leaders would act to clean up the corruption unless of course they are partakers in these activities.
It`s time to address the imbalance of power.

We, as a society and especially the media, have to stop calling this type of violence against women and murder as "honour killing' because there is nothing honourable in harming and killing another person. By calling it 'honour killing', we are perpetuating stereotypes and making excuses for violence against women. There is no culture and no religion in this world that promote violence and murders. We need to name what happened to Jassi and so many other women in Canada and around the world what it is - misogyny, patriarchal violence and injustice against women. I cannot believe how our Canadian political leaders can go on camera all the time and condemn "other" countries for violating human rights, when our own government has 'refused' to act in Canada to ensure that there is justice for all, and to make sure that all women are safe in Canada and elsewhere.

I have also been following this horrible crime from the beginning and it still does sicken me. I am pleased to know that these monsters not humans have been charged, but what sadens me the most how long it took for them to finally get arrested. The government these so called people who represent our country, one that truly believes in a free peace loving constitutional land obviously have not done there job and is a pity, a real pity. It's a BIG joke that we should trust these individuals to do the right thing. As far as the mother and uncle being extrediated , I wish they could be sentenced here , however it could work either way as any government is corrupt they may not get the full consequences or perhaps they be waiting for there attackers. Just one word for them watch your backs eyes are on u and always have been.

Hi, This just came across my desk and I had to pass it on to you ASAP… Internet multi-millionaire Mack Michaels has a few new positions available right now… If accepted you can easily rake in $11, 917 per month starting from scratch. ==> http://www.maverickmoneymaking.info/maverick.html Once you’re accepted just follow the training Mack gives you. It’s really quite simple… Learn how Mack went from not being able to afford Christmas gifts to a millionaire lifestyle and how you can too! BUT… Due to the extremely high level of Hands-On time Mack spends with every new member he has to limit the number of positions that are open. Right now there are only 2 available in your area. If you’re interested you should move quickly. ==> http://www.maverickmoneymaking.info/maverick.html Your Friend, – Mike

Lack of education and obsession with religion makes one ruthless and cruel as is the case with Mr. Badesha. it is clear that having a flowing beard does not make a true sikh ,simply because it is natural mean to guise someones true image. The showing of Mr. Badesha in front of his Gurudwara is true example how a dispicable creature can take shield of religion and hide his true entity of murderer. Sikh and Gurudwara only means peace and love. History tells that even Mugals who played with sentiments of sikhism vanished long time back, so Badesha will too pay for murdering and hiding behind the shield of calling himself a Sikh. Justice shall prevail for Jassi and Mithu.
