Indian authorities seeking Canadian mother in murder investigation

Indian police are seeking the extradition of a British Columbia woman in the killing of her newlywed daughter in the Punjab.

An arrest warrant has been obtained for Malkiat Kaur of Maple Ridge. Police in India suspect she ordered the killing of her 25-year-old daughter Jaswinder Kaur Sidhu for marrying a rickshaw driver.

A warrant has also been issued for Kaur's brother, Surjit Singh Badesha, a prominent Sikh community leader in B.C.

Nine men were arrested last week, including another maternal uncle of Sidhu.

Sidhu was kidnapped, beaten and strangled in early June. Her husband was also beaten but is recovering from his injuries.
