Shame shame RCMP & Canada! How much respect can you have in a system that won't stand up for its citizens? "Always get their man"? Not any more-this is injustice in its most absolute form. "Ongoing investigation?" Going on to where? Archived, forgotten? Is Jassi's family waiting for this to blow over?RCMP hoping for the same? Thanks 5th Estate for keeping this story alive; I won't forget Jassi.
My heart aches for this young girl I just saw the cbc special. It broke my heart and a rage at the same time for those parents....
Carry On
and God Bless
Hello, I am Indo-Canadian, and I think you should give the RCMP a little more credit. This case has a lot of issues here for the RCMP to consider and to sort out. For CBC to air "Murder Unveiled" is reason enough to believe that Canadians are taking this matter very seriously. Give it some time, and I'm sure the RCMP will do whatever it can legally do to solve this matter while always maintaining political correctness and integrity.
You're so stupid. The RCMP are deliberately stalling, hoping interest in the case will go away. The ONLY way they will do anything is by increasing pressure on them via publicity.
Hogwash!!! With all the OVERWHELMING evidence...how much more time will it take for real justice to occur!! Integrity? I think with all the all the evidence provided integrity has already been compromised.
I can not understand why her mom and uncle are still free....Because it happened in India - is that why the Cdn goverment is not doing anything for Jassi? She was a young innocent girl.. her mother is not a mother, she is an evil person, who will go to hell, they think they are true sikhs. In the guru granth shaib, it states all people are equal, no colour no caste, so you kill your daughter for your repuation, what are people going to say if she marries a poor man..
Jassi's parents - I don't know how anyone can live near you or see you..
Help Jassi and her husband
I think this is horrific. How many more young ladies have to fear when they go back to their home land. The two ladies in question were from Winnipeg. And went to India with their husbands. When is this all going to end. The government needs to do something.
My name is Jasdeep and I am 14 yrs old. I live in Ontario Canada. I think you should keep this case alive because Jassi was a Canadian citizen, Canada is a place for freedom and Canada's duty is to save and protect its citizens. Jassi went to India, got murdered by assasins which were forced to do so by her own family. They murdered their niece/daughter by calling them and telling we will pay 50 grand. I think they should all be sentenced to life in prison.
I also watched 5th Estate tonight, and was absolutely appalled with the seeming lack of concern and action with both our Canadian government and the RCMP. Don't you think that 147 calls (if Telus records are correct) from "Uncle" Surjit Badesha's residence to the men in India who were found responsible for Jassi's brutal murder, just a wee bit fishy?? Come on Canada, it's due time for some justice to be granted here. Extradite both Malkial Kaur an Surjit Singh Badesha to Indian to answer for charges of conspiracy to commit murder. Don't let wealth, community standing, or cultural differences stand in the way of doing what's right. Justice for Jassi is still alive, and waiting to be served.
is Jassi's uncle also paying the RCMP to for get about this case?If not it sure seems like it.Im also certain that if this crime did'nt happen in a third-world country then justice would have been served a long time ago.It seems like the 5th Estate is putting mor investigation into this than our own Canadian RCMP.
I think that Jassi's family is waiting for this to just go away, but I think that they as well as Jassi are going to have whats been awaiting them for 6 years:Justice.
I'm so disgusted to think that two parents could have so much pride in them selves to not see there daughter for who she was.An indivudual living in Canada were she has freedom of speech and rights to make her own choices in life her life. If immagrants want to come to our country that is fine but except our ways and rules. People of today should have evolved enough to realize that our children are not our property they are only our responsiblity to care for and teach them right from wrong. Not to enforce apon them what you want for them. It is disguesting to think a mother could do this to her own child. Some woman and men should not be allowed to have children. It should be like every thing else in this world pass a test first. These people deserve to be executed for what they did they should suffer as did she. The RCMP should get off their asses and start doing their job. Her parents are guilty and deserve to pay the price as they said Jassi had to. What has our legal system come down to? You have to admitt to being guilty to be punished for your crimes? Everything points to the parents but is Canada affraid of causing an up roar or something. Would it be bad for buisness to call the kettle black. It all must come down to money and politics. This Country is starting to be more and more like the United States and it sucks.II'm proud to be a Canadian but at times like this I wonder!
All I want to say this type of behaviour is not a immigrant behaviour but more of people who are extremely disturbed. Please don't judge immigrants, even your ancestors were once immigrants(unless of course you are of aboriginal descent). Otherwise I agree with other issues you brought up about people should really think about having children, etc...
I think you are right on the money. Uptil now I thought that Canada is the best country in the world, just, fair, equal rights for rich and poor. But now I wonder if it is same as USA, rich people can buy better justice here in USA. I believe Jassi's mother and uncle are still free because of thier wealth and influence in the community.
I completly agree with you Denise.
I am of punjabi decent, but was born and raised in Canada.
My paretns came here over 30 years ago, and have adapted to the ways of life here. We still have our religion and culture, and it will always be with us, but some things that our culture accepts, makes me ashamed to say I am of indian decent.
Things need to change, there is an increase of opression and killings of young indian women who simply speak up and stand up for themselves.
They do not want to be victimized any longer, and they end up loosing their lives for it.
Respect for our elders is one thing, but being suppressed by them is another.
I hope enough people speak against this that the RCMP takes some action.
Jassi and all the other young indian women who get killed like this deserve better!
what has happened to this couple is awful, im absolutely appalled myself being from the punjabi sikh community. thank you to 5th estate for keeping her memory alive, i hope the uncle and mother are put responsible for their actions.
what i dont understand, is how the sikh community still see the uncle as influential and an elder when it is obvious what he has done.
i hope the movie will be available here in denmark or online, as im very interested in watching it.
i think what was worse, and confirmed the india police suspicion, was that jassis own family didnt even care to claim her body - isnt that proof enough?
I completely agree with you. When it comes down to this. It is all about morals in the Punjabi - not Sikh - community and rules that the older generation expect the younger generation -us- to abide by
As if the RCMP's bungling of the Air India investigation was not enough, the Jassi Sidhu case simply highlights the utter incompetence and cavalier nature of our 'proud' RCMP in going about their business.
Why did it take the RCMP several months to figure out that they do indeed have a case for investigating Jassi's mother and uncle? And why is the investigation taking more than 5 years? Don't 140 phone calls from Jassi's uncle to the (now convicted) perpetrators of the murder have any significance? Du'h?
The more important question is - what message will this send to consirators of crimes that are perpetrated on our citizens outside our borders? That they can go about their business as they please, because the law won't stop them?
I thank CBC Television for being so dogged in their pursuit of their story and justice for Jassi.
For what is is worth, I am originally from India and became a proud Canadian citizen last year.
Yes I totally agree with you. I too am orginally from India. I think it is time for justic to render and take care of the two that started this horrific crime in motion. Lets stand up for the ones that no longer can't.
Mithu is alive and now languishing in jail in India on what are obviously trumped up charges.
For his sake, let justice prevail in Canada. Then the Indian authorties might take notice and set Mithu free.
My heart goes out to Mithu. He has had a triple whammy of injustice:
1. Arrested and beaten by the Indian police like many other innocent youths during their infamous 'anti-terrorist' campaign,
2. The murder of beloved Jassi, and
3. (Obviously) framed and jailed on a rape charge.
I feel so strongly about this case that the next time I'm in India I want to go to Punjab and see if anything can be done for his welfare. If anything, I would like get his slate cleaned regarding his former arrests on suspicion of terrorism, so that he can one day come to Canada!
Great idea MN Chetan
To bad a whole lawyer team wouldn't volunteer their time to get him out. I to feel he is being framed and would like to see him freed
What is the RCMP waiting for? For the mother and uncle to order more murders. Where is the justice for our Canadian Citizens and Residents? I've been to Ludhiana, Punjab, India and I know of it's corruption. If you have money, you can find anyone to do what you want, including the law.
RCMP people will no longer link you to justice, you need to get this case cracking and make sure the culprits to her murder are brought to justice. Jassi was a Canadian citizen and she deserves this, I can asssure you her soul won't rest at peace until her murderers are sentenced. It's not only unfair, but wrong for RCMP and Canada not to do anything about this. This should not blow over, if the Indian government can bring the culprits in India to justice, I feel the Canadian government should be able to do the same. The mother and uncle need to be sentenced, therefore no other mother or guardian would even think of doing something like this to their children. I feel that the RCMP is not doing their job, even though they say it's an ongoing investigation. How much more evidence do you need? I wonder if it would have been different if was a white canadian citizen being killed and not a sikh canadian citizen. I am possitive if this would have happened to an American citizen, this case would not be pending, but it would be solved. A PERSON SHOULD BE PUNISHED FOR THEIR WRONG DOING!
it is a horrible incident. This incident not just makes me cry but scares me as well. It shows that despite being a Canadian citizen we got no freedom that our fellow canadians do. I belong to this type of family as well so that means I should never even dare to think about love marriage becasue it means death to me. If Canadian Goverment cant help us is such situation that whats the point of having canadian nationality. Why should I be proud to be a Canadian while I am not treated as a Canadian citizen.
I think the RCMP should get to work, and convict and sentence the uncle and mother of Jassi. This was a very tragic situation, and the people who helped with this murder should be punished and sentenced to life in prison. End of story, this is Canada-not corrupt India.
I thought the movie was well done... Hopefully this will put more pressure on the RCMP to be more active on the case. I'm glad CBC and 5th Estate are still keeping the story alive... Justice needs to be served.
I just watched Murder Unveiled, and it seems absolutely ridiculous to me as to why the RCMP hasn't arrested Jassi's mom and uncle. Despite the fact that all the evidence clearly points towards both of them; they continue to live freely. Jassi's decision to marry that guy was maybe "wrong" according to her parents, but killing her shouldn't have been the ultimate consequence of her actions. I truly believe that they should be punished; however, the outcome of this case thus far unfortunately makes me lose my faith in the Canadian Justice System.
I always assumed Canadian police to be extremely efficient but reality points in the opposite direction.
It is appalling firstly that parents could kill their own children. I do believe each one of us has to serve in another world after leaving this one. Jassi's parents surely dont stand a chance in hell. For what they've done, even hell will be a dignified place for them.
If the Indian police believes it's the parents, why is the RCMP not taking any action? So many years after the murder, and yet no conclusion.... seems rather impossible. It's rather ironical that the Indian community in two nations - Canada and India - knows that it's the parents except RCMP. Is justice a word still used or is it obsolete? What's the present meaning of justice? Is it ignoring facts and letting the murderers lead a normal life? Kudos RCMP and the Canadian Justice System! Kudos!
I think both W5 and the CBC should be applauded for keeping this terrible and tragic story alive. The RCMP should start explaining to the Canadian public why Jassi's mother and uncle are still roaming the streets of BC, without charges being laid, after what appears to be strong prima facie evidence of culpability in first degree murder.
I can't believe after 6 years nothing has happened. Jassi was a female Canadian citizen and her murder needs justice. Something needs to change or this can happen again! Jassi wrong doing was that she fell in love and followed her heart and now she is no longer alive! Thank you CBC for sharing this story and hopefully other people will share their reactions.
I am absolutely appalled at our justice system. A Canadian woman is brutally murdered. In addition, evidence leads to Canadian suspects. The mere involvement of Canadian citizens in such an attrocity renders RCMP invovlment a non-negotiable in this case. No need to debate clashing legal metrics. A life was taken. Jaswinder Sidhu and Sukhwinder Singh must be given justice. As for those involved, even though the slow legal process has afforded them time, their insides must be churning with guilt and fear. It is only time before they reap the consequences of such an inhumane and trashy decision. They have only ill-wishers. To think Jaswinder's own mother would consent. Why is it that in our community, we value other's opinions so much. 'Honour killing' is what they call it, what a truly pathetic concept. I am fortunate to not come from an ignorant family. My anger is not exhaustive, I could write more but am limited by space. God bless you Jassi, please be at peace sweet girl, you will be given justice.
Its is a sad day when a family gets their daughter brutally murdered because she fell in love. These are the things that you see in movies not in real life but to find out that they actually happened makes me think that humanity is not mature enough to let go of their fears. I am sickened to see that nothing has happened so far, I hope that the family get their due. For the love of God, people! Falling in love is not worth killing your daughter over, I hope it brought all the 'honor' in their family that they thought had been tarnished when she got married to another. Yeah that got their names out alright, murdering your own child should put the family's name there with all the worst killers in the world.
As we sit here, nod our heads and continue living our lives, justice does not get served. As years go on, the level of safety I feel living in Canada has significantly decreased. Aside from that issue, here is a family that has obviously murdered their daughter and our legal system is still waiting for what? Will Canada have to become a dark version of what India is, where justice is only for the rich and powerful, for some action to take place? When will the Canadian government realize that by funding religious institutions they are only creating more of a segregration line between various faiths because the institutions tend to be led by extremists of the faith and that doesn't help anyone and in this case it did not help Jassi. If people were to be fearful of their concequences, perhaps such attrocities would not occur, however Canada's sentencing serves no point, it is a hollow system in need of harsh sentences. Jassi's parents should be sentenced to life in prison with all the evidence that has been put forth till now, what else is being waited for?
Hi My name is Adam Mohammed, I have seen the movie, Murder Unveiled and have read and viewed documentaries and articles about this incident and personally I think the ones who are obviously responsible are cowards and are a desgrace to their Nation. People who do not know much of the Indian nation will have a negative view on them and that is wrong. What these criminals and swines have done was commit a murder not even their own God will protect them from. Only evil works in this way to destroy innocents and purity, and that's exactly what they have done. It seems they had planed it all to well to commit such a foolish and cowardly act but not thought of what will be thought of themselves and the respect of their culture, they have tarnished it with blood of their daughter/niece. All they care is about their status and power how they are viewed by other people, if they are religious people or follow a religion they will know love is love to love one another and bring peace not to show off ranks and hierachy.
I am currently a Highschool student and will study Forensic Science and Psychology in University so that when I do become a CSI I can put away stupid people like that where they rightfuly belong. I pray and hope this case does not continue when I start my career. If so I want to be enlisted on this case and help with the investigation. This is all that is on my mind besides the rage and fury I have for these people who hide behind money and power in this lifetime, but in the afterlife - what then? What will they hide behind?
Thank you for your time and for reading my thoughts upon this horrific, cowardly, sad incident of a young girl.
Few observations on this case. It is not very common in India for a couple to transcend economic barriers and marry across rich and poor divide. Hence, this documentery should not be taken as something typical of India. Love affairs of this sort are not common.
The cold blooded behaviour of parents is also not unheard of. Few years back, a high temporal authority in Punjab, India was accused of getting her daughter murdered. Allegedly the girl dared to go against her wishes and marry the guy whom she did not approve.
I come from a European family and could not imagine my parents doing something like this. Unfortunately traditions are something that goes from generation to generation and we must respect them. However we come to Canada to better ourselves and our families. Sometimes we must leave our beliefs behind us. We are now bringing up our children in another country and they must try to do the best they can. Not only is it new for the children to adjust to a different lifestyle but also for the adults. Many traditions must change. Immigrants must not forget who they are but must also remember why they are here. As long as you respect yourself the respect will be given to you. Life is to short to be put on the spot and to dwell on what should have been done and not what was done.
I have never been so appalled in my life as I was when I saw the movie unveiled murder. I am dismayed at the injustice that was suffered by this poor girl and her husband. How long does it take to investigate what happened and the CANADIAN CONNECTION in her murder. How much more do they need.
As a Canadian citizen, I would assume that if it was me who was murdered in another country, under any circumstances, my country would do me justice. I wonder why there is even a hesitation from our RCMP. Would they do anymore for any of us? Please Canada, don't let this beautiful young womans belief in a Free Canada be tainted by her own blood.
The answer is clear.
Bring Jassi's accused family to the courts of Canada, give them a fair trial, and if they are found guilty, then imprision them and all their PRIDE and throw away the key.
Disgusted. Ashamed. Angered...that is exactly what many feel in regards to the extent of this crime and to the lack of justice being served by the Canadian RCMP and judicial system. Jassi Sidhu was a Canadian born and bred girl who was brutally murdered out of greed and ignorance in another country, however, the fact that she was Canadian obviously means nothing to the RCMP - they say that this investigation is "on-going"? What the hell does that mean? They say nothing more than just that, leaving the public in the closet about what is really going on.. that is if the case is indeed being investigated. I am ashamed at the Canadian judicial system - since when did it start taking THIS long to bring justice to an innocent victim and the one's that loved and cared for her??
Do I sense a bit of racism here? I do not know.
On another note, I am not a practicing Sikh by many means, however, I do know that Sikhism does not condone this type of behaviour whatsoever!. The uncle and the mother, both religious Sikhs supposedly pray and attend their local Gurdwaras (temples) and yet they do something like this that goes against the beliefs of Sikhism and all that holds true to it. They are, therefore, in total contradiction to their belief system. One should ask them: Where does it say in the Guru Granth Sahib (the Sikh holy text), that you can go ahead and kill (directly or indirectly) a family member, or anyone for that matter?!?!? For God's sake, she was blood. She was a neice, a daughter, a student, a friend to many, a human being.
Shame on those lowlifes that played a role in her death, esp. her own mother and uncle! Shame on the people that still associate with these infidels, and once again shame on the Canadian government for not upholding the Canadian way: bring justice for all.
For Shame... it is people like Jassi's mother and uncle and the hitmen in India that have brought our Indian culture to mockery for the world to scorn at .. for shame.
I just saw the movie on cbs, and I am disgusted with this stupid, yes stupid tradition that you can only marry who you're told and if not, you'll be killed? well you know what, her mother, that heartless human being and her uncle should hang for this. All she wanted was to live and love. Is that a crime? I think not!
Watching the documentary, I felt so outraged that the family in Vancouver can show off all their money yet are so close minded by having such little hearts. And with all that money they can get away with anything including murdering their own daughter. The law won't touch them in Canada or in India and that's not democracy and that's injustified to the victims. I hope the mother and the uncle get what they deserve and more.
I am dissapointed with the treatment of Jassi's death. I love Canada but .... can't help but wonder; is this how 'multicultural' Canada really works ?! I wonder, what would have happened if she was ... for example English...Scottish ... or French...? Maybe things would be different now... maybe they wouldn't. Who knows...
I hope the movie about Jassi will move people and once and for all the justice will be served.... !!!! I know Canadians just like Indians will care about Jassi and wont let this go by forgoten...Please, lets not forget ... we already saw what these people are capable of doing? Why wouldn't they try and pay off more people to cover this up? That would not be at all as bad as what they already did....
I just finished watching 'Murder Unveiled' and I honeslty have to say that it made me sick and ashamed at the way the Punjabi community handled this situation..which was not a big situation to begin with.
Watching Jassi's story brings tears to my eyes, just like it did about 3 years ago when I did a presenation on the case for a class project ...WHAT'S GOING ON HERE?..everyone is entitled to their own life, and the way they want to live it...she made her decision, and it was not respected. Her family was more concerned with their own honour then their daughter. They should be punished for what they have done, all the evidence is there, SO WHAT's stopping them??? She deserves Justice, and we all want to see her get it. Thank you 5th Estate, for taking a stand
I watched both the BBC report on the 4th of Febuary, 2006 and the companion film, 'Murder Unveiled', on the 6th, tonight.
I am a proud Canadian, or I was. Never before in my life have I been ASHAMED of this country as I have been these past two days. What good is it to allow foreigner's into our country and let them become citizens if we will not protect them?
Jassi deserves better then what the Canadian Judicial system has offered her. She and Mithu deserve more then "the case is ongoing".
Once the BC RCMP have pulled their tails out from behind them, I'd like them to consider how 'we stand on gaurd for thee' and extradite the foreingers in our lands who responsible for taking one of our own.
Malkial Kaur and Surjit Singh Badesha are not Canadian's. They don't understand what it means to be a Canadian. And I for one, do not want them to be apart of my country.
I think that it very shameful that the RCMP has done nothing to extradite these individuals. Jassi was a Canadian citizen, but it appears that in the eyes of Canadian justice she was and is a second class citizen. Had this been a caucasian woman, justice would have been delivered swiftly.
I am Sikh and all I can say is this type of behaviour is appalling and is not the norm!!!
My heart goes out to Mittu.. the poor boy has suffered so much..he is a strong person..I don't know how he finds the strength to go on...
He is strong because he is truly in love.. living for his love.. waiting for justice to be served. God bless him and God bless Jassi's soul.
- one love.
I just finished watching the movie Murder Unveiled and I can not beleive that this is still happening today in the year of 2006. Arrest them already, and bring justice. I also heard that the husband is now at this moment in prison as Jassi's family framed him once again for rape. This is an outrage and the I pray that the Canadian police can free him. I do not understand how the people of India can live like this in this day and age. I hope that justice is found for Jassi and her husband and I hope that whoever was involved is locked away in prison for the rest of their life as they deserve just that. I hope everyone around the world saw that movie and I hope that it helps to bring justice.
I think that it is very irresponsible of the RCMP to let this case drag on without an justice. It is clear that Jassi's uncle and mother were involved in the murder because of the many phone calls to the actual killers. The RCMP should take some action and send these criminals to India where they can be tried. I am disgusted by a lack of effort or concern by the police.
I think that it's time that Asian parents started treating their children like they were a gift from God, rather than using them to as pawns make the best deal so it will would make them look good?
For God's Sake we are your children - not your cattle.
We are your daughters and not guests that have overstayed our welcome.
Grow up!
Get what God is really about - Love and not just Idjit. Love would have let Jassi live. Idjit murdered her.
Make sense of this and change the world.
Is it better that your children love and trust you than fear you? Think about your answers and then judge who you care about most. You, or your child?
And yes, the Canadian government should definitely get on with putting these heartless, selfish murderers away. She was a Canadian citizen and she deserves justice.
The RCMP are a disgrace to Canadian Police. This young, innocent, helpless young girl was killed because of her love for a man. Her parents and Uncle should be throwing up looking at themselves every day. Putting away these victims for life would not do the job. They need to be killed...Hung. They are a disgrace to the indo-canadian community and are pathetic human beings. I just watched "Murder Unveiled" and it shows how big of a scum bag the father and mother are. There should be absolutely no reason to ever kill your daughter for ANY crime. Justice needs to be served. Its been long enough. The RCMP are investigating other cases like car accidents, drug abuse etc. Take some time and consider this investigation. If it was one of your family members who had been murdered this investigation would have been over years ago. Put yourself in Jassi's place.....R.I.P Jassi
Will there ever be Justice for Jassi Sidhu? I am saddened and outraged by this case. I hope that all the publicity surrounding the murder will finally incite action that will finally bring justice and well needed closure to this case for the friends and loved ones that Jassi left behind by this tragedy.
I just finished watching Jassi's story - it really touched my heart for the two of them. I can't believe how someone can be so cruel and be so cold to kill their daughter/niece. And what kind of justice do we have here in Canada. Most of the evidence is pointing out to Jassi's family like paying someone to kill them and those 147 calls made from Canada directly to the killer - isn't that an evidence also. And its been how many years now since she got murdered and justice hasn't been served. RCMP is too busy catching those drug lords. BUT THEY CAN'T EVEN SOLVE JASSI'S CASE. How lame can that be. I think it's time for consequences to be serve to those people who have hurt Jassi!!!!RIP JASSI - YOUR STORY WILL BE REMEMBERed AND WILL TOUCH MANY HEARTS OUT THERE..Let's all pray for Jassi for her murder to be solve so that her soul will rest in peace!!!!
Isn't it a shame that in a country of such corruption there have been 7 charges in this case.
In CANADA we cannot even manage to bring 2 people to justice for this poor girl.
The RCMP shpuld be ashamed, I am.
Well personally I think this is really unfair to Jassi, she was killed, why, because she fell in love? Our Canadian government doesnt even seem to care how obvious is it that her uncle and mother were all up to this. When there had been 147 calls to India to different people. Its common sense - why else would you call India and then your neice/daughter is killed it makes no sense.Canada needs to stand up and fight this case because its only fair to her husband and Jassi. R.I.P Jassi
I just saw the movie called Murder Unveiled and to say the least I was horrified. The cruelty that people can do to eachother, you expect it sometimes from strangers but, your own family members doing this is the worst betrayal. Also, the injustice of what is happening to Mithu is totally wrong. There should be justice for him for the lose of his wife. Get it together law enforcement and extradite these people and set Mithu free and give him peace.
Thank you CBC for keeping this story alive! I am Indo-Canadian and I abide by the laws of this country. "Religion" or our "culture" does NOT llow us to murder our children just because we do not agree to their way of life.
Six years and this case is still "ongoing"? Please dont insult our intelligence. We want justice and we want it NOW! The RCMP need to pull up their pants and start doing what they're paid to do, because this case will not just "blow over". You are sending our community the WRONG message by leaving Malkiat Kaur Sidhu and Surjit Singh Badesha free to live their lives in peace.
For as long as we do not see justice we will not rest! We as a nation have a voice and our voices will be heard so that Jaswinder Sidhu may one day be able to rest in peace.
I would be greatly interested in knowing what more we, as a society, can do because we're obviously not doing enough or we would not be seeing murderers roaming our streets.
To read more about "honour killings" please visit this site: http://www.southallblacksisters.org.uk/
We all know that Mithu the rickshaw driver played the cards right he did this whole love story to get into Canada why would he except 20000 rupees when he can be in Canada and make much more. The funny thing is even after Jassi is dead he is still trying to get into Canada. True love hey? Funny I know these people they will do anything for a visa. He had everything to gain money, wealth and Canada. He got her under control like remote control and she was just a puppet. Sad - I think what the parents did was wrong.
I think its unfair for you to call Jassi a "puppet". I am aware that there are great number of people that would do anything to come to Canada...but exactly how far would a person go? He got married, went to jail, had the crap beaten out of him and his raputation ruined. Dont you think mithu's mother would have wanted her son in serious danger just so he might have a chance of coming to Canada...no, I highly doubt it cause her son was ALL she had, and besides...Jassi had told him already that it was impossible for her to take him back to Canada bacause he had a criminal record...they were at the begining of starting a life togather. I would rather have a person like Mitthu in this country rather than Jassi's parents who should be behind bars by now but are not and this is what concerns us all. I probably would want to come to this country if i was in Mithu's place but that does NOT mean I would be incapable of falling in love.
Why wouldnt you believe in Mithu love to Jessy. She was the most beautiful and carring women????????????The fact that he had the opportunity to come to Canada While being with her it does not mean that his love was not genuine.
"a stranger in a father's house?" Let us not consider Jassi a stranger in our country! She was looking forward to living a life in Canada with her new husband. Where are these people today? One is dead with no one accountable for her death while the other is rotting in a jail cell. RCMP.. your claim that the file is open/active is not enough! This was a young woman with dreams of living and thriving in Canada. She fell in love and fought who/what she believed in. I was empowered to watch how BRAVE abd COURAGEOUS she was for standing for her beliefs- which is more thatn we can say for our protective services. Are you not suppose to protect and serve the sons and daughters of Canada?? A true investigation to the murder is all that we ask. Its time to bring the compund down and let justice in.
Thats it, enough is enough with the Canadian injust system. If I am in an almost similar situation or in a similar situation I decided that I wouldn't approach any law enforcement agency for a just solution but will solve the situation in my own way if this is inflicted on me
I read about Jassi's death when it happened, but I only understood it recently when I watched Murder Unveiled, and ever since then, I can feel her love, her pain, and the simple fact that she wanted a simple life filled with happiness with the man she loves, yet it was too much to ask for. I can understand how deeply the mother was hurt, and Im sure it hurt Jassi to have to take such a drastic step, and for the family to go to such lengths to ruin her and her life makes me sick. My husband and I feel so much for this couple as we got married the same way and we want Jassi to rest in peace, and until her murderers dont pay for what they did to her and until her husband can live a peaceful life without fear, Jassi wont rest in peace. We need people to come together and fulfil Jassi's dream, Im sure she's watching and shedding tears as a helpless wife. Rest in Peace Jassi.
It is the same old values that a lot of young men and women are subject to suffering or in some cases death as in Jassi case. The death of a young woman (Jassi) demanded justice and justice we must look for regardless of ethnic background. If the Canadian Government would not act in this case it is just showing an example to other citizens that they can get away with anything or on the other hand that as citizens we are exposed to the same treatment as Jassi from our government who swore to protect its citizen regardless of race and circumtances. Bottom line is that it is disgusting that we live in a civilized society but yet we act uncivilized.
Reading about Jassi's story has inflicted some thoughts and questions about my Canadian identity. I am a proud Canadian but showing how much justice the Canadian judical system is bringing to Jassi shows me that it's like any other country. Many people blame India for having an unjust system where everything and anyone can be bought out but here in Canada there is nothing different. .. the Canadian justice system isn't doing much to bring justice to Jassi's murder. Not saying anything doesn't mean you disagree, silence is worse than anything.
To know that the people responsible for Jassi's murder still walk free in Canada is very disheartening. I feel as though the Canadian Justice system has failed one of its own citizens horribly. I hope that our community can come together and demand that something be done to bring the heartless people who killed Jassi and tried to kill Mithu to justice. I am sickened by the blatant disregard for a women's life a family can have and I am also sickened by the fact that our community has yet to speak out publicly against this issue. By our community staying silent we are in my oppinion just condoning the behaviour of the perpetrators.
Remember the above name, as he was the orchestrator of the plan to kill Jassi. We drive by their farm, which is only a few blocks from our house in Maple Ridge, often. I often wonder what he is thinking about, how can he justify his own actions, and why is our government not doing anything to this prominent businessman man in our community? Hopefully the RCMP are progressing in their investigation and extradition orders will be issued soon. It was very refreshing to see this website as mentioned in a local paper. The best part about the movie Murder Unveiled was at the end when Mr. Bagdesha and family were shunned at their place of worship. He and Jassi's mother must be brought to justice.
It is unconscionable for the Canadian Gov. to allow so many years to pass and have still not arrested the peolple who are responsibe for ordering the murder of their own dauther. And for the attempted murder of Mithu. Thankfully public opinion does count and may finally bring about a proper and just
response from the Canadian system.

I am appallled about the lack of justice and sensibility of Canada and India; with all the evidence that incriminates Jassi's uncle and mother, and yet nothing has been done about these two criminals. instead of justice, more injustice has been committed by encarcerating Mithu.
I HAVE A MESSAGE FOR MITHU'S MOTHER; NOT EVEN THE WORSE ANIMAL KILLS HER OWN BORNE. YOU LADY ARE THE WORSE HUMAN BEING; SOME WOMEN KILL THEIR CHILDREN BECAUSE THEY HAVE SOME MENTAL IMBALANCE, BUT YOU, YOU ARE A REAL MONSTER, AND YOU HAVE NO CONSCIENCE. YOU DO NOT DESERVE TO LIVE. I HOPE ONE DAY YOU REALICE THE UGLINESS OF YOUR CRIME, AND DIE OF REMORSE.
From what I understand about Jassi's family is that they have blueberry farms . Why has not the community boycotted doing business with this family? If I as the Mapleridge community I would boycott blueberries. Quite frankly since this story aired I have refused to buy my favorite berry because I don't want to put a penny in this family's pocket even if that hurts other berry farmers. The only way to hurt these kind of people is to hit them in the pocketbook. Please people boycott blueberries until there is justice for Jassi . Take my advice it would work by refusing to buy anything that their farm produced..
I learned of this crime on June 21st, 2008 while watching MSNBC. I am in total disbelief and disgust that such a thing could happen in the first place. But to have the obvious proof there is, without the arrest of those who should have been her protectors is unforgiveable.
The facts about Jassi's murder on orders of her own family are repellant beyond belief: it was done to preserve her family's izzat, their honour. That so many years after the facts were known Jassi's uncle and mother have neither been prosecuted in Canada nor extradited to India--that dishonours Canada and all Canadians. I am deeply ashamed of the RCMP and of at least two successive Canadian federal governments. I pray that Mithu and Jassi's spirit can one day receive justice and can one day forgive us.

Over five years later and nothing!!!!!
It makes me ashamed to be a Canadian.

what i dont understand, is how the sikh community still see the uncle as influential and an elder when it is obvious what he has done.
i hope the movie will be available here in denmark or online, as im very interested in watching it.
i think what was worse, and confirmed the india police suspicion, was that jassis own family didnt even care to claim her body - isnt that proof enough?

But I am NOT proud of Canadian justice.

To bad a whole lawyer team wouldn't volunteer their time to get him out. I to feel he is being framed and would like to see him freed

Kudos!

The cold blooded behaviour of parents is also not unheard of. Few years back, a high temporal authority in Punjab, India was accused of getting her daughter murdered. Allegedly the girl dared to go against her wishes and marry the guy whom she did not approve.

The answer is clear.
Bring Jassi's accused family to the courts of Canada, give them a fair trial, and if they are found guilty, then imprision them and all their PRIDE and throw away the key.

For Shame... it is people like Jassi's mother and uncle and the hitmen in India that have brought our Indian culture to mockery for the world to scorn at .. for shame.
